Let’s get technical

We’ve talked a lot about the business process and functional side of ctcLink and not much at all about the technical work going on behind the scenes. And, there is a lot going on, so, it’s time you met the technical team and learn a bit about what they’ve been doing.

The ctcLink Technical Team has been working on a series of strategy documents that determine and describe the solutions to the new ctcLink system in a number of key technical areas: Portal; Data Conversion; Security; Integration; Reporting.

The team went through a discovery phase before developing each strategy. There was an internal review process, followed by review and feedback from Technical subject matter experts (SMEs) from across the college system. The SMEs were recruited through the ctcLink College Teams and the Information Technology Commission listservs. In all, more than 150 SMEs volunteered for all five areas. Thank you Technical SMEs!

Two of the five strategy documents are still in progress. The Integration Strategy review with SMEs was yesterday (June 5) and the Reporting Strategy review with SMEs will be held later this month.

The next step is to develop a series of detailed functional plans related to each of the five areas. Once those plans are available, Technical SMEs will be tapped again for feedback.

By the way, if you are a college or SBCTC employee and you are interested in reviewing any of these strategy documents to understand what each one is all about, or you’d even like to watch the recorded SMEs review sessions, you can visit the ctcLink College Resources page and look for the “Technical” section. It’s all there!

One glance at all those documents and related materials and you’ll get a better understanding of how busy the Technical Team has been. But, look! They’re still smiling!
